Each year during Open Enrollment, you can:
- Update your application and household information
- Compare health plans for the new year
- Choose a new plan that better fits your needs
If you do not choose a new plan, Explore Health may automatically renew your current coverage if you are still eligible and have chosen automatic renewal.
Automatic Renewal
Explore Health may automatically renew your health plan for the next year if:
- You are still eligible for coverage
- You choose automatic renewal
- You do not select a new plan during Open Enrollment
If your current plan is still available, you will usually stay in the same plan.
If your plan is no longer offered, Explore Health may enroll you in a similar plan with:
- Similar benefits
- A similar provider network
- A similar cost level
Sometimes this may be with a different insurance company if your current company no longer offers plans in your area.
Financial help updates
When available, Explore Health may use updated income information to recalculate your financial help for the new plan year.
This may change:
- Your monthly premium savings
- Your out-of-pocket cost savings
If you are asked to provide documents to confirm your eligibility, you must submit them by the deadline to keep your financial help active.
Choosing your own plan
Even if you are eligible for automatic renewal, it is still important to:
- Review your health plan each year
- Update your income and household information
- Compare plan options during Open Enrollment
You can turn off automatic renewal at any time.
Changes that may affect your renewal
Some life changes can affect your coverage or savings, including:
- Changes to your income
- Changes to your household size
- Turning 26 and aging off a parent's plan
- Changes to your eligibility for financial help
If your eligibility changes, Explore Health may update your plan or savings amount for the new year.
Dental plan renewal
Standalone dental plans follow the same renewal rules as health plans.
Important deadlines
To have updated financial help ready for a January 1 coverage start date, submit any requested information by December 31.
If you become eligible for Oregon Health Plan (OHP)
If you are later approved for Oregon Health Plan (OHP), you may need to end your Explore Health plan to avoid having overlapping coverage.
