Benefits for Tribal Members

Explore Health offers special health coverage protections and savings for people who are American Indians or Alaska Natives (AI/AN).

You may qualify if you are a member of a federally recognized Tribe or an Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) Corporation shareholder.

Extra savings for Tribal members

Tribal members may qualify for special cost-sharing savings. This can lower or remove out-of-pocket costs like:

  • Deductibles
  • Copays
  • Coinsurance

Depending on your income and the type of care you receive, you may qualify for:

Zero cost-sharing plans

Some Tribal members may qualify for plans with:

  • No deductibles
  • No copays
  • No coinsurance

Limited cost-sharing plans

Tribal members may pay no out-of-pocket costs when receiving care from:

  • Indian Health Service (IHS) providers
  • Tribal or Urban Indian health programs
  • Providers referred by an Indian health program

Enroll year-round

Most people can only enroll in health coverage during Open Enrollment. Tribal members can enroll in or change plans at any time during the year.

Help with premium payments

Tribes, Tribal Organizations, and Urban Indian Organizations may be able to help pay premiums and other health coverage costs for Tribal members.

Keep your information updated

Please report changes to your:

  • Tribal status
  • Household income
  • Family size
  • Address or contact information

Updating your information helps make sure you receive the correct savings and coverage.

Renewing Your Coverage

Explore Health may automatically renew your health plan each year if:

  • You are still eligible
  • You choose automatic renewal
  • You do not pick a new plan

If your current plan is no longer available, Explore Health may enroll you in a similar plan.

You can:

  • Change your plan during Open Enrollment
  • Turn off automatic renewal at any time
  • Update how much financial help you want to use toward your monthly premium

Financial help updates

If your income or household information changes, your financial help may also change. Updating your information as soon as possible can help avoid:

  • Owing money at tax time
  • Receiving too little financial help
  • Gaps in coverage

If you are asked to provide documents, be sure to submit them by the deadline to keep your financial help active.
