Ending Your Coverage

You can end your Explore Health coverage at any time.

If you do not pay your monthly bill

You must pay your monthly premium to keep your health coverage active.

Missing your first payment

Your insurance company may cancel your plan if you do not make your first payment by the deadline.

Missing later payments

If you stop paying your monthly premiums, your coverage may end after a grace period.

Your insurance company will notify you if your coverage is ending because of non-payment.

Ending coverage by choice

You can choose to end your coverage:

  • At the end of the current month, or
  • On a future date you select

If you need your coverage to end in the middle of the month, contact the Explore Health Contact Center for help.

Retroactive coverage changes

In some situations, Explore Health may allow coverage to end retroactively (back to an earlier date).

This may happen if:

  • You were enrolled by mistake
  • You had other health coverage
  • Your Oregon Health Plan (OHP) approval took longer than expected
  • Medicare coverage began retroactively
  • You moved out of state
  • There was a system or enrollment error

Explore Health reviews reports of unauthorized enrollments or plan changes and works to correct any confirmed errors.

Reinstating your coverage

Sometimes coverage can be restarted after it ends.

You should contact your insurance company directly to ask about reinstatement.

Coverage may be reinstated if:

  • Your coverage ended because of a payment issue
  • There was a system or processing error
  • There were special circumstances affecting your coverage

You may need to pay any missed premiums before coverage can restart.

Re-enrolling after non-payment

If your coverage ended because premiums were not paid, you may still be able to enroll again.

Your insurance company may require you to:

  • Pay past-due premiums before coverage starts again
  • Make payment arrangements to keep your new coverage active
