Dental plans

Getting dental coverage

Dental coverage is available through the Marketplace in two ways: as part of a health plan, or by itself through a separate, stand-alone dental plan.

IMPORTANT: You can not buy a Marketplace dental plan unless you are buying a health plan at the same time. The Marketplace will ask you to enroll in a medical plan before choosing a dental plan.

Dental coverage is available two ways through the Marketplace

  1. Dental coverage is included in some Marketplace health plans. You can see which plans include dental coverage when you compare them.
    • If a health plan includes dental, the premium covers both health and dental coverage.
  2. Separate, stand-alone dental plans. You can see them after you choose a health plan through the Marketplace.
    • If you choose a separate dental plan, you will pay a separate premium for your dental coverage. If you enroll in a dental plan offered by the same insurance carrier as your medical plan, you must pay both premiums or your medical coverage may be terminated as well as your dental coverage.

How to preview dental plans

Currently, the Oregon Marketplace Window Shopping tool does not show dental plans. You can visit HealthCare.gov/See-Plans to preview dental plans available to you. The tool on HealthCare.gov will allow you to preview health plans with dental included, and stand-alone dental plans.
