If something changes in your life, you need to let HealthCare.gov know within 30 days. Here are some changes you should report:
- Someone joins your family, like through birth, adoption, or marriage.
- Someone leaves your family because they turn 26, pass away, or you get divorced.
- Your income changes.
- You get offered other health coverage, like through a job or Medicare.
- You move to a new home.
- Your citizenship or immigration status changes.
- You go to jail or get released.
When you report a change, the Marketplace will check if you're still eligible for your current health plan or if you qualify for state programs like OHP Plus or OHP Bridge. This check happens every time you update your HealthCare.gov information. Here's what could happen:
-
You may still qualify for Marketplace coverage, and you can review and confirm your plan with any updated financial help.
-
You may become eligible for OHP Plus or OHP Bridge, but don’t cancel your Marketplace plan until you get a notice from the state with a start date for OHP Plus or OHP Bridge.
What happens after you report a change?
- When you report a change to the Marketplace (HealthCare.gov), HealthCare.gov checks if you might qualify for OHP Plus or OHP Bridge.
- If you are found potentially eligible for OHP Plus or OHP Bridge, HealthCare.gov securely sends your information to the state.
- The state reviews your information to see if you qualify for state programs.
- The state may send you a letter asking for more information. If you don’t respond, the state will assume you don’t qualify for benefits.
- The state will send you a letter telling you if you qualify or not, with a start date if you do qualify.
- If you’re approved for OHP Plus or OHP Bridge, go back to HealthCare.gov and report your new coverage. This will let you end your Marketplace health plan.
- If you’re not approved for OHP Plus or OHP Bridge, go back to HealthCare.gov and report that you weren’t eligible. This will help you stay in your Marketplace plan and might increase your financial help.
Important things to remember
- Don’t cancel your Marketplace coverage until you know when your new benefits will start. If you cancel too early and then find out you don’t qualify for OHP Plus or OHP Bridge, you might not be able to get back into the Marketplace plan until the next open enrollment period.
- The Marketplace won’t cancel your HealthCare.gov plan for you. If you qualify for OHP Plus or OHP Bridge, it’s your job to report your new coverage to the Marketplace and ask them to cancel your old plan.
- You can’t get financial help from the Marketplace if you qualify for OHP Plus or OHP Bridge. These programs are free and meet the health coverage rules. If you don’t tell the Marketplace about your new OHP Plus or OHP Bridge coverage, you might have to pay back any financial help you got while you had both OHP Plus/OHP Bridge and Marketplace coverage.
