Some changes in your life allow you to shop for a new plan if you are already covered through HealthCare.gov.
If open enrollment is closed and you have a plan through HealthCare.gov, you may be able to choose a new plan if either of the following happens:
- Your income drops enough that you go from not qualifying to qualifying for financial assistance, or to newly qualifying for cost-sharing reductions
- Your family size increases and you go from not qualifying to qualifying for financial assistance, or to newly qualifying for cost-sharing reductions
If you think either of these situations may apply to you, apply for a special enrollment period.
